HOW WILL YOUR DONATIONS CONTRIBUTE?
In support of the NOFAS-VA mission statement, we are in the process of establishing educational and public awareness programs in the state of Virginia. Current programs in development include the following:

SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS - Meetings are currently being held for all affected by FASD. They are free and are held in public facilities. Frequency is determined by members, and donations contribute to publishing notices and producing fliers about meeting times and dates.

PUBIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS - We will ask sponsors to donate funds for the purchase and placement of FASD awareness posters. These posters are currently being placed in medical offices, schools, restaurants and libraries. We also produce fliers to disseminate to local business in conjunction with local scout troops.

WORKSHOPS FOR EDUCATORS - Organized and led by members of NOFAS-VA, these workshops are currently being offered to school systems to help teachers understand the unique learning needs of students with FASD. We use material available from the national office , which was developed in conjunction with NIAAA and CDC, and invite specialists when requested. NOFAS-VA works closely with school officials to develop a protocal that will satisfy the state curriculum's requirements. Sponsors will be asked to donate funds to finance the cost of the workshops as well as speaker fees.

WORKSHOP-TO-GO FOR SCHOOLS - Donations will fund the creation of educational kids that can be shipped to school systems within the state, as well as a NOFAS-VA representative to introduce these kids, train teachers and school officials on the information contained in these kits.
